Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? We are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistants to join our team in Burgess Hill and make a positive difference in the lives of pupils who require additional support.
About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other education professionals to support pupils with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), and learning disabilities. You will play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual goals within a supportive educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEND.
- Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
- Support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development.
- Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning activities.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents/carers.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and support provided.
- Promote safeguarding and pupil wellbeing at all times.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable.
- A patient, caring, and adaptable approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEND support are advantageous but not essential.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
