About the Role
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistants to support pupils in educational settings across Crawley. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who require additional emotional, behavioural, and learning support. Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff, you will help create a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment that enables students to achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Assist in implementing individual learning and behaviour support plans.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills.
- Promote positive behaviour and de-escalate challenging situations effectively.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.
- Monitor and record student progress and wellbeing.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs.
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships and establish appropriate boundaries.
- Resilience and confidence in managing challenging behaviour.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
- Experience within schools, alternative provisions, youth work, care settings, or residential support.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and behaviour management strategies.
