About the Role
We are seeking committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs within a specialist or mainstream educational setting in Littlehampton. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people who may present with additional behavioural, emotional, or learning challenges. You will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to provide consistent, structured support that promotes engagement, emotional regulation, and positive learning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Assist in implementing personalised behaviour and learning support plans
- Support pupils in developing emotional regulation and social skills
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
- Promote positive behaviour strategies in line with school policies
- Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and achieving their potential
About You
We are looking for individuals who are:
- Experienced working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs (desirable but not essential)
- Calm, resilient, and able to de-escalate challenging situations effectively
- Strong communicators with a supportive and empathetic approach
- Team players who can build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Passionate about inclusive education and improving outcomes for vulnerable learners
Desirable Qualifications & Training
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- Team Teach, MAPA, or similar behaviour support training (advantageous)
- Safeguarding training (or willingness to undertake)
