Literacy Support – Specialist SEMH School in Horsham, Horsham, West Sussex
Start: September
Type: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Salary: NJC Scale 11 – Approx. £27,000 per annum
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm
Requirement: Driver essential due to rural location
Responsibilities
- Routinely assessing students’ reading and comprehension skills
- Delivering targeted literacy interventions on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Supporting reading, writing, spelling, and emotional literacy development
- Encouraging a love of reading and promoting student engagement
- Supporting the development of working memory, fine motor skills, organisation, and social interaction
- Identifying students requiring additional literacy support and adapting strategies to meet individual needs
- Working collaboratively with teaching, pastoral, and therapy teams
- Supporting the arrangement of Dyslexia assessments where appropriate alongside the Head of Therapy
Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with children or young people
- Ideally experience supporting students with SEN, SEMH, or neurodiverse needs
- Strong literacy and communication skills
- A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
- The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students
- A proactive and adaptable attitude
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Benefits
Pay includes 12.07% holiday pay. Approx. £27,000 per annum, NJC Scale 11.
