Location: Brighton
Job Title: HLTA (SEN – ASC Support)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Brighton is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support pupils with their education. In this role, you will work closely with class teachers to deliver lesson cover and lead small-group support sessions that help pupils overcome social and communication challenges. Your expertise in SEN support is essential in assisting with the development of individualised learning plans that promote academic and personal growth. The ideal candidate will have HLTA qualifications or demonstrable SEN experience within a school setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide lesson cover and lead small-group interventions for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition
  • Assist in planning and implementing tailored SEN support plans
  • Adapt classroom activities to meet the specific needs of pupils with autism
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback to the teaching team

Essential Experience/Attributes

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
  • Experience working with Autism Spectrum Condition and related learning challenges
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations and respond to the needs of the pupils
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school's safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to HLTA status, QTS or SEN are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
