We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Haywards Heath, supporting secondary-aged students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support students both within the classroom and through targeted interventions, helping to build confidence, emotional regulation, engagement, and positive learning behaviours within a structured and supportive environment.
The role will include:
- Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Assisting students to access learning activities across the curriculum
- Supporting emotional regulation, communication, and social development
- Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement within the classroom
- Building positive and trusting relationships with students
- Supporting students with additional needs including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and communication difficulties
- Working collaboratively with teaching, pastoral, and therapy teams
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience working with children or young people
- Ideally experience supporting students with SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to build positive and professional relationships with students
- A proactive and adaptable attitude
