Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and helping them achieve their full potential? We are currently seeking dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Learning Support Assistants to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Burgess Hill. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a range of additional needs through a combination of 1:1 support and small group interventions, helping them thrive both academically and socially. Whether you have previous school-based experience or transferable skills from care, youth work, childcare, or support work, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, the SENDCo, and other support staff to provide tailored support for pupils with additional educational needs. You will play a key role in helping children build confidence, develop independence, and engage positively in their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 support for pupils with SEND
  • Delivering targeted small group interventions
  • Supporting children with social, emotional, and communication needs
  • Assisting pupils with classroom activities and learning tasks
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Promoting inclusion and encouraging participation in all aspects of school life
  • Supporting behaviour management strategies where required
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
  • Helping to create a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a school environment
  • Experience supporting children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, or other SEND requirements
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or SEND
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour support strategies
