You will work closely with teaching staff to support students across KS3, KS4, and KS5, providing targeted in-class and small group support where needed. The secondary school is looking for someone who brings a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for supporting young people in their learning journey, while helping to maintain a calm, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide in-class support to students across KS3–KS5, ensuring they can access learning effectively.
  • Work 1:1 with students who require additional support, including those with SEN, SEMH, or additional learning needs.
  • Deliver targeted small group interventions to support progress in core subjects.
  • Support teaching staff in adapting learning materials and resources to meet individual student needs.
  • Help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
  • Promote positive behaviour in line with school policies and contribute to a calm learning environment.
  • Encourage student engagement, motivation, and independence during lessons.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and SENCOs where appropriate.
  • Assist with classroom organisation, preparation of resources, and general learning environment support.
  • Support students in developing social skills, confidence, and emotional resilience.
  • Supervise students during lessons, transitions, and occasional break or lunchtime duties if required.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to support student development.
The ideal candidate will:
  • Have experience working with children or young people (school-based experience desirable but not essential).
  • Be confident supporting students with a range of abilities and needs, including those with SEN, SEMH, or additional learning needs.
  • Be patient, adaptable, and able to build positive, trusting relationships with students.
  • Be committed to supporting learning, progress, behaviour, and overall student wellbeing.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a supportive school team and follow guidance from teaching staff and SENCOs.
  • Be confident implementing strategies to score engagement, concentration, and classroom participation.
  • Have a good understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, and promoting positive behaviour.
  • Be willing to assist with preparation of learning materials and classroom resources where required.
  • Support students on both a 1:1 basis and in small group interventions to reinforce learning objectives.
  • Help monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
  • Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence in learners.
  • Support classroom behaviour management in line with school policies.

This role offers the opportunity to work across a well-regarded secondary school that values staff development, teamwork, and inclusive education. Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm. The pay stated is inclusive of the 12.07% PAYE holiday. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
