Teaching Assistant (Specialist 1:1 Support)
Location: Worthing
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30
Salary: £84 – £90 per day

Are you passionate about making a difference in a young person's life? We're seeking an experienced, patient, and empathetic Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a non-binary student who has faced challenges attending education.

This role focuses on supporting the student's individual needs, helping them rediscover a love for learning, improve their self-esteem, and nurture their overall well-being. If you have the ability to read body language, provide a calming presence, and foster a safe, supportive environment, this could be the role for you.
About the School

We are proud to welcome you to our new independent specialist school for children with learning difficulties, autism, and associated needs.

At our school, we believe every child has the capacity to learn, grow, and achieve, whatever their starting point. Many of our students have had negative experiences in mainstream education, leaving them feeling disconnected as learners. Here, we do things differently.

An experienced and skilled team of staff provides academic, pastoral, and therapeutic support tailored to each student. We focus on nurturing, challenging, and cultivating curiosity and confidence in young people. Through our core values, we build positive relationships and a sense of individual worth for every student.
About the Role

In this position, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one support to a non-binary student who requires extra care and understanding.
  • Help the student manage feelings of overwhelm by recognising body language cues and supporting them to take breaks when needed.
  • Create a safe, nurturing environment where the student can rebuild their confidence and self-esteem.
  • Use creative and personalized approaches to re-engage the student with their education and foster a love of learning.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and the school's pastoral team to ensure the student's needs are met effectively.
  • Monitor and celebrate progress, focusing on emotional well-being as well as academic achievement.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children with additional needs, particularly those who have struggled with traditional education settings or mental health.
  • Skills: A calm, patient demeanour with the ability to adapt to the student's unique needs. Strong observational skills to identify and respond to signs of overwhelm.
  • Empathy: A nurturing approach, focused on improving well-being, self-esteem, and fostering positive relationships.
  • Commitment: A dedication to helping the student become a happy, independent member of their community.
  • Checks: A DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a school that values every child's potential and takes a personalised approach to learning.
  • Work with a dedicated and supportive team passionate about making a difference.
  • Help transform a young person's experience of education, empowering them to achieve their best.

If you are motivated to bring compassion, understanding, and positivity to this rewarding role, we would love to hear from you.
