Would you like to be part of a global team working to end destructive wildfires? Are you ready to apply your skills to a fast-paced, high-impact project with a clear, urgent mission? This is the opportunity for you.

The role: We are looking for a talented GIS Developer to design and implement a highly interactive, user-friendly situational awareness platform using ESRI ArcGIS. The platform will support emergency responders by visualising live wildfire detection data and determining forecast model outputs through custom-built, interactive maps. Wildfire detection analytics and forecasts are produced by advanced remote sensing tools and wildfire spread models, independently developed by partner organisations.

About us: You will be joining SIRIUS Wildfire Alliance, a global, interdisciplinary team of engineers, researchers, designers, and domain experts from organisations including Pinepeak Ltd, Spinthir Designs Limited, academic institutions, and emergency services. The platform is a key deliverable for the Space-Based Wildfire Detection and Intelligence Track A XPRIZE Wildfire competition finals in August 2025.

Your mission:

  • Design and build an interactive web-based mapping platform using ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Create clear, actionable custom cartographic visualisations to support field response and operational planning.
  • Integrate the platform with external APIs, delivering real-time detection data and model forecasts.
  • Develop interactive map elements and decision-support toolkits, including tooltips, toggles, layer controls, time sliders, spatial filters, alerts, and controls to trigger simulations based on user inputs.
  • Prioritise user experience, especially under time pressure or field conditions.
  • Collaborate across time zones and work closely with developers, modellers, and emergency response stakeholders to ensure usability and reliability.
  • Deliver well-structured, maintainable, and professional-grade code.

Timeline: Up to 3 months, starting ASAP and concluding by the end of August 2025.

Location: Global, fully remote with flexible working hours.

Compensation: We offer a flexible compensation structure based on experience and availability. Daily or monthly rates are negotiable. A competitive bonus is planned, contingent on the team receiving prize funding in the XPRIZE Wildfire finals.
