Principal Systems Engineer Embedded & Hardware

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Systems Engineer to take ownership of a critical embedded hardware and software development programme.
This is a senior technical leadership role where you will act as the technical authority across embedded systems, electronics and software development activities, working closely with both internal stakeholders and third-party engineering partners to guide technical decisions, review designs, solve complex engineering challenges and support successful product delivery.
The role combines systems engineering, technical leadership, architecture, supplier management and stakeholder engagement. It is ideally suited to somebody who enjoys influencing technical direction, challenging design decisions and driving engineering excellence across multidisciplinary teams.
The RoleWorking at system level, you will provide technical leadership across embedded hardware, electronics and software development activities.
You will act as a key technical interface between the business and external development partners, reviewing proposed solutions, influencing architecture, identifying technical risks and ensuring products are robust, manufacturable and aligned with programme objectives.
Success in this position will depend as much on your ability to build effective relationships, influence stakeholders and work collaboratively with suppliers as it will on your engineering expertise.
Key ResponsibilitiesAct as the technical authority for embedded hardware and software development activities
Provide technical leadership across systems engineering, architecture and integration activities
Review, challenge and influence technical designs and proposed solutions
Define and influence system-level requirements and technical direction
Work closely with third-party engineering partners and suppliers
Identify, assess and mitigate technical risks
Lead and participate in design reviews
Support verification and validation activities
Ensure products are robust, manufacturable and suitable for production
Collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing and project teams
Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Drive delivery through influence, collaboration and sound engineering judgement
Willingness to travel abroad 3-5 times per year
You will have a strong engineering background combined with the ability to provide technical leadership and work effectively across multiple teams and organisations.

Experience within medical devices or other regulated industries would be beneficial, however we are equally interested in candidates from aerospace, defence, industrial automation, scientific instrumentation or similar sectors where technical rigour, quality and disciplined product development are fundamental.
Package£60,000 - £75,000 basic salary
