Location: Anwick

Hours: 4 on 4 off days and nights

Responsible for leading the Engineering Team, to enable the site to achieve the profit and performance targets set by the Site Engineering Manager. Drive continuous improvement to maximise operational effectiveness and efficiencies through the development of people, process and systems. Sets improvements strategies for own department KPI’s enhancing the group, mission, vision and values as set out in the Premier Provider Plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example in promoting a harmonious working environment in line with the Company’s policies in Equal Opportunities, Harassment and code of ethics.
  • Monitor and improve reliability of all equipment and services across site.
  • Analyse using improvement tools like Root Cause Analysis and report on downtime, machinery efficiencies and performance of factory equipment with a view to identify possible improvements and cost savings through preventative rather than breakdown maintenance.
  • Ensure sound engineering standards and practices to keep equipment in the best state of repair utilising the PPM system (SAP).
  • Develop a programme of forward planning for engineering works using SAP tools.
  • Work with equipment suppliers to ensure that suitable service contracts are in place to ensure good levels of support at all times.
  • Responsible for preparation, budgetary control, hours allocation and progress monitoring of all PPM schedules.
  • Identifying and implementing PPM schedule improvements in order to maintain efficiency of site.
  • Report on attainments of completion of work carried out by Engineering Technicians.
  • Regularly discuss engineering activities with management in order to achieve common objectives.
  • Work with production and planning teams to review incidents and opportunities for PPM windows.
  • Appraise management of any problems likely to affect the efficiency or performance of the Engineering department or the factory in general.
  • Review frequency of items/parts required for PPM and those being removed from the production area to assess wear patterns.
  • Ensure that all spare stock levels are maintained, liaising with the Engineering Stores Team as necessary.
  • Issue permits to and control external contractors to ensure safe working practices whilst on company premises, assess completed work to ensure it is to required standard.
  • Add value by developing requisite skills in line with Pilgrim’s Europe competency framework.
  • Accountable for overseeing training and development of the teams, providing support, mentoring and coaching to colleagues.
  • Ensure that all Company Policies and Standard Operating Procedures are up to date and being adhered to.
  • Ensure all investigations, disciplines and recruitment activities are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Complete and update Risk Assessments to ensure that work is carried out safely with no risk to employees, contractors or visitors and complies with all relevant legislation.
  • Ensure working areas are kept clean at all times.
  • Work in a manner which ensures quality, hygiene and bird welfare standards are maintained.
  • Work in a manner that actively seeks to reduce any negative environmental impact in relation to the processes and procedures operating within their area and across the wider business e.g. reduction of waste, recycling etc.
  • On-call weekend cover as required.
  • To undertake other duties as your Department Manager may require.

Essential Criteria:

  • Knowledge of PPM systems.
  • Relevant Electrical and mechanical qualifications.
  • Proven expertise and experience in both of these trades.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office.
  • Management experience particularly in multi-skilled teams.
  • Food industry experience - ideally within the poultry sector.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Have a full understanding of the poultry industry in Pilgrims Europe.
  • Experience of 24 hour operations.
  • Experience in SAP system.
  • IOSH trained.
  • Food safety L3.
  • HACCP L3.
