Shift Pattern: 4 days on, 4 off, 4 nights on, 4 off
Hours: 05:30 - 17:30 (Days) 17:30 - 05:30 (Nights)
Job Purpose: As a Multi-Skilled Engineer, you will provide an effective engineering service to the production team, responding promptly to breakdowns and maintenance needs. You will maintain equipment both proactively and reactively to ensure factory performance meets targets and KPIs. Your role will focus on improving equipment availability and performance to meet OEE targets, using the SAP PPM system for accurate recording of labour and parts. You will also deputise for the Engineering Team Leader when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide effective breakdown cover and carry out repairs to ensure optimum machine performance.
- Perform planned maintenance and adjustments within your competence.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults quickly and effectively.
- Ensure all equipment operates efficiently and meets product specifications.
- Work closely with the Engineering leadership team to escalate faults beyond your competence.
- Comply with Health & Safety rules (including COSHH) and promote safe working practices.
- Assist in training and assessing staff on machine operation.
- Liaise with visiting engineers to ensure improvements deliver business benefits.
- Complete all equipment documentation accurately and ensure proper filing.
- Report non-conformances in machine performance promptly.
- Use SAP PPM system for capturing engineering labour and parts.
- Support production targets and continuous improvement initiatives.
Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities:
- Work safely and observe company Health & Safety rules.
- Use Lock Out / Tag Off (LO/TO) system at all times.
- Wear protective clothing and report hazards promptly.
- Cooperate with managers to maintain a safe workplace.
- Assist in accident investigations and promote safe behaviour.
- Support environmental initiatives such as waste reduction and energy efficiency.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (Mechanical or Electrical).
- Recognised UK qualifications.
- Proven multi-skilled experience with strong electrical competence.
- Previous experience in manufacturing operations.
- Literacy and numeracy to National Level 2 Standard.
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 4 or equivalent.
- Experience in food processing or poultry machinery.
- PLC knowledge and welding experience.
- Knowledge of lean techniques and processes.
- 17th/18th Edition qualification.
- Automated machinery experience and computer literacy.
