Location: Redruth

We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented HSE Officer to play a vital role in supporting a high-performing site team.

About The Role

As a key member of the HSE team, you will provide a proactive, engaging and professional HSE service, ensuring the site operates safely, adheres to legal requirements, and maintains best practice standards at all times. You’ll work closely with the HSE Manager and Operations teams, acting as a trusted partner across departments and stepping up to deputise in the HSE Manager’s absence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Operations & Administration
    • Represent HSE in daily production meetings, driving actions and improvements
    • Conduct workplace observations, safety audits and hazard assessments
    • Ensure completion and management of safety checks and compliance records
    • Monitor equipment faults and liaise with engineering teams
    • Maintain accurate documentation including waste records and compliance data
  • Audits, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
    • Support internal and external audits (e.g. BRC, customer, SEDEX)
    • Assist in environmental benchmarking and site audits
    • Maintain and update HSE systems, noticeboards and communications
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and legal standards
  • Incident & Risk Management
    • Support accident and near-miss investigations with root cause analysis
    • Track actions, ensure completion and promote safe return to work practices
    • Assist with risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work
  • Training & Engagement
    • Deliver toolbox talks and HSE training sessions
    • Support the site training matrix and ensure records remain compliant
    • Work collaboratively with HR and department leads on specialist training
  • Reporting & KPIs
    • Track safety KPIs, trends, and performance metrics
    • Produce reports and analysis to drive improvement initiatives
    • Monitor utilities, accident trends, and departmental performance

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience or understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental practices
  • Ideally experience within FMCG or a chilled manufacturing environment
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities
  • A proactive mindset with a strong focus on completing tasks and driving results

Desirable Qualifications

  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Working towards NEBOSH General Certificate or Level 3 HSE qualification
  • IEMA training (or working towards)
  • Knowledge of COSHH and accident investigation techniques
  • Training/assessment qualifications (Level 3 desirable)
