About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and driven Maintenance Manager to support the Engineering Manager in leading the Engineering function and developing a high-performing team. This role is key to shifting the site from a reactive “repair culture” to a proactive “continuous improvement culture”, improving equipment reliability, performance, and overall site efficiency. You will lead by example, embedding best practice, strengthening technical capability, and ensuring compliance across all engineering activities.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the delivery of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to maximise plant efficiency and minimise downtime
  • Ensure prompt and effective resolution of breakdowns impacting production
  • Drive improvements in equipment performance using continuous improvement techniques
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment in line with company standards
  • Maintain site infrastructure, plant rooms, and utilities to required standards
  • Ensure all engineering activities meet health & safety, legal, and environmental requirements
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, with a focus on safe systems of work and machine guarding
  • Ensure the site is always audit-ready, maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety, and compliance
  • Oversee contractor management and ensure adherence to company policies
  • Maintain accurate SOPs, risk assessments, and statutory inspection records
  • Drive a shift towards proactive maintenance and continuous improvement
  • Apply lean thinking to improve efficiency, reliability, and productivity
  • Monitor utilities and engineering KPIs, identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure spare parts are effectively managed to support operational needs
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, building capability and engagement
  • Set clear expectations and manage performance effectively
  • Conduct regular team meetings and ensure clear communication across shifts
  • Support training, development, and succession planning
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning
  • Manage absence, holidays, and working hours in line with business needs and legislation
  • Ensure 100% compliance with training requirements
  • Support career development and provide meaningful feedback to team members
  • Recognise and reward positive behaviours, contributing to a strong team culture

What We're Looking For

Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in a maintenance leadership or supervisory role
  • Strong background in manufacturing or food production environments
  • Knowledge of health & safety, statutory compliance, and safe systems of work
  • Experience managing both planned maintenance and reactive engineering
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and cultural change

Qualifications

  • HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (preferred)
  • NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) highly desirable
