We are currently recruiting an Engineering Team Lead to report directly to the Engineering Shift Manager on shift and indirectly to the Maintenance Manager. They will be required to work independently as required and have a good working relationship with production management and operators, willing to give technical advice to production when required and work within quality, hygiene, health and safety standards. To deputise for the Engineering Shift Manager when not on site. To proactively use the PPM system in place (SAP) to capture all engineering labour and parts. The job is performed mainly indoors in varying degrees of light and heat. The nature of the job demands contact with greasy/dirty substances and sometimes within close proximity of poultry entrails, meat and other substances. It also involves extensive periods on foot and periodically working at heights.
Responsibilities:
- The person assumes a leadership role over his team of mechanical, electrical, multiskilled engineers and semi-skilled.
- The person must ensure that Health and Safety rules (including COSHH) are complied with and that staff are fully aware of their Health and Safety responsibilities with respect to operating machinery.
- The person will help in the training and assessment of staff regarding machine operation.
- The person will work closely with any visiting engineers to ensure that any agreed improvements or modifications deliver the desired benefits to the business.
- The person will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment documentation is fully and accurately completed and filed or passed to the correct department.
- The person is able to prioritise and issue work duties in the absence of the shift engineering manager/maintenance manager.
- The person reports and escalates all problems/faults which will affect the factory efficiency to the shift manager/maintenance manager.
- The person ensures work is carried out safely and that protective equipment is used when necessary and work permits are issued and signed off when required.
- The person promotes good working behaviour.
- The person will carry out any other duties commensurate with their training and experience as requested by the shift manager/maintenance manager.
- The person ensures that the workplace is clean and tidy (5S Standards).
- The person ensures that the stores are kept appropriately stocked.
- Carry out required checks of temperature monitoring system.
- The person will ensure that any utilities are used efficiently and minimise wastage.
- The person will ensure that all environmental permit conditions are not breached.
Essential Criteria:
- Must be a Time/Skill-Served Fitter with 4 years Industrial Experience.
- Must have a mechanical/electrical aptitude.
- Must be able to diagnose and solve problems.
- IT Literate.
- The ability to make decisions is essential.
- The ability to organise time is essential.
- Showing initiative is essential.
- Good reasoning ability desirable.
- Previous supervisory experience.
Desirable Criteria:
- Good communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Experience of poultry processing machinery.
- Experience within a Food Processing Industry.
- Experience in the use of Hydraulics and Pneumatics.
