Role Purpose

The Hygiene Operations Team Leader is responsible for leading and supervising the hygiene team during factory cleaning operations, ensuring all equipment and production areas meet required hygiene standards.

The role supports compliance with health, safety, food safety, environmental, and company procedures while also managing day-to-day people matters, training, attendance records, and audit requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership
  • Lead and coordinate the hygiene team during cleaning operations.
  • Provide coaching and hygiene-related training to team members.
  • Deal with day-to-day people management matters.
  • Support team development in line with the PE competency framework.
  • Promote teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Hygiene & Food Safety
  • Ensure cleaning activities are completed to required standards.
  • Take immediate action on hygiene issues and elevate where necessary.
  • Maintain cleaning schedules and associated documentation.
  • Achieve hygiene audit targets and swabbing standards.
  • Represent the business during audits and customer visits.
  • Administration
  • Keep all hygiene paperwork accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain Time & Attendance records to ensure correct employee pay.
  • Monitor performance against agreed hygiene targets.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental
  • Ensure safe working practices and correct use of PPE.
  • Carry out Health & Safety audits and inspections.
  • Support risk assessment activities within the department.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards.
  • Drive environmental improvements including waste reduction and recycling initiatives.

Essential Requirements

  • Good level of English (where English is an additional language).
  • Hard-working and reliable.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to lead by example and manage teams effectively.

Desirable Requirements

  • COSHH trained.
  • People management experience.
  • FSL Level 3 qualification.
  • Key Performance Measures
  • Completion of 100% of required safety and hygiene checks.
  • Achievement of weekly swabbing targets/results.
  • Successful completion of probation periods by operatives.
  • Hygiene audit performance.
  • Accuracy of Time & Attendance records.
