Livestock Buyer/Analyst – Pigs
Location: Uxbridge, London
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Working Pattern: 5 days office-based (no remote or hybrid working)
Purpose
The role of Livestock Buyer/analyst – Pigs will be responsible for managing the procurement of quality pigs from farms and suppliers across the UK for our abattoirs’. This role will play a crucial role in ensuring a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable supply of pigs, while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies.
Key Responsibilities/Measures of Success
- Pig Procurement Strategy: Develop and implement strategies for sourcing pigs, ensuring continuity of supply, optimal pricing, and meeting quality and welfare standards.
- Pricing: Work with key internal stakeholders to streamline pricing models in line with customer demand and market trends.
- Supplier Management: Identify and build strong relationships with new and existing suppliers/farming partners, negotiate/review contracts, and manage supplier performance to ensure cost-effectiveness, reliability, and quality.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all livestock meet the company’s animal welfare, health, and quality standards. Work closely with the technical team to manage any issues related to animal health and welfare.
- Market Intelligence: Stay informed about the livestock market trends, pricing, and regulatory changes to anticipate fluctuations in supply and demand. Provide strategic insights to management to guide procurement decisions.
- Cost Management: Manage budgets and work to drive cost efficiencies in the procurement process without compromising on quality or supplier relationships.
- Logistics Coordination: Work closely with the logistics / supply chain team to ensure the timely delivery of livestock to processing sites while minimizing transportation costs and delays.
- Reporting & Analysis: Help to prepare regular procurement reports, track supplier performance, and provide data-driven insights to senior management for strategic decision-making.
- Automation – Help automate grains and livestock department systems, processes, reporting.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of the UK agricultural and livestock industry, including market trends, regulations, and best practices in animal welfare.
- Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of building and maintaining supplier relationships.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to manage budgets and cost efficiency.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
- A proactive and strategic mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of livestock transport and animal welfare legislation is desirable.
- Proficiency in data analysis, processing, reporting tools, and advanced Excel functions. Familiarity with Python, Power BI and systems for process optimisation is a plus.
Qualifications
Degree or equivalent in Agriculture, animal science or supply chain management.
