Chemistry graduate wanted to develop new membrane technologies. Are you a recent chemistry graduate looking to make your mark in industry? Do you want to make a difference by inventing new, sustainable materials? If so, we have an excellent opportunity for you. PIL Membranes Ltd, based in Norfolk, is looking for a Scientist to join its R&D team.

PIL Membranes products are everywhere. The polymer membranes they manufacture go into clothing, electronic, military and medical markets; with the aim of producing the most high-performing materials possible whilst accelerating the transition towards more sustainable technologies.

The R&D Scientist position is a full-time, on-site role based at our Kings Lynn facility. Reporting to the R&D Manager, you will work with the other scientists developing new polymer syntheses and formulations before overseeing scale-up work to full-scale manufacture. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about how lab experiments can translate into real-life, practical solutions.

Key responsibilities:
  • Work in a laboratory environment researching and developing new polymer systems and generating prototype membrane materials.
  • Lead pilot trials and oversee full-scale factory manufacture.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping and report results clearly and concisely.
  • Utilise a range of analytical equipment to assess polymer and membrane properties.
  • Support other business functions in a technical capacity by working with colleagues from Operations, Quality and Commercial.
Candidate requirements:
  • Educated to degree level in chemistry.
  • Capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • An attention to detail and an adherence to safe working practices.
  • A desire to learn and solve problems.
  • A willingness to get involved with a hands-on approach.
  • A working knowledge of MS Office; particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Training will be provided to ensure the successful candidate is able to carry out work safely and to a high standard. Work must be undertaken in accordance with the company’s Environmental, Health and Safety Standards, and in compliance with our ISO9001:2015 quality certification.
