The Headteacher and Governors of Pikes Lane Primary School are seeking a committed and highly inclusive SEN Teacher to support pupils with complex additional needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), communication and interaction difficulties, sensory processing needs, and learning difficulties. The role will be based within our SEND provision and aims to ensure all pupils achieve their individual potential in a nurturing, structured, and communication-rich environment.

Responsibilities

  • Engage and inspire pupils with complex SEND needs and maintain high expectations for all learners.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge and experience supporting pupils with ASD and communication difficulties.
  • Create highly inclusive learning environments for pupils who may be non-verbal or have limited communication skills.
  • Use total communication approaches including visuals, symbols, AAC, communication boards, and structured routines to support pupil engagement and independence.
  • Plan and deliver specialist interventions such as Attention Autism, Bucket Time, Intensive Interaction, and sensory regulation activities.
  • Develop and implement a sensory-informed curriculum to support pupils’ regulation, communication, and readiness to learn.
  • Work effectively alongside SEND teaching assistants to provide purposeful, consistent support that promotes independence.
  • Apply behaviour support strategies and understand behaviour as communication.
  • Commit to professional development and reflective practice within SEND education.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and a nurturing approach in responding to changing pupil and school needs.
