Position Summary: The Fleet Mechanic Helper (Yardman) is a semi-skilled position in the repairs and inspection of equipment.
Essential Functions:
- The Fleet Mechanic Helper will assist the Fleet Mechanic in all the following duties:
- Responsible for 70 – 100 pieces of equipment per region.
- Assist Fleet Mechanic in Managing Deployment of Equipment across regions, cities and states.
- Possess knowledge of equipment mechanics ranging from as large as a crane to as small as a chain saw.
- Work safely while performing repairs or maintenance on a job site in various weather conditions.
- Assist in troubleshooting in various localities regarding equipment repair, maintenance and deployment.
- Frequently work around energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others while performing job.
- Assist in maintaining company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
- Does all other related work as required to complete the job.
Miniumum Requirements:
- Requires 3 months to 1 year experience in mechanical training or background.
- Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
- Willingness to learn.
- Must have or be able to obtain CDL license.
- Must have own general tools.
- Must be willing to learn while assisting the Fleet Mechanic with the following:
- Hydraulics
- Diesel/gas engine – automatic
- Chassis and suspension
- Welding/metal fabrication
- Small tool repair
- Must know or be able to learn how to use computers for:
- Diagnostics
- Equipment Inventory management
- Work Orders
- Certifications or Experiences in any of the following are a plus:
- ASE certification
- Ford or international certifications
- Altec/Telelect
- Hydraulic maintenance
- Utility or construction jobs
- Understands equipment set up and grounding.
- Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
- Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
- Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
- Willing to work over-time when requested.
- Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
