Purpose of the role
Pico is seeking to hire a new team member to join the venue services team. Venue services is a critical function at Pico, sitting at the center of the commercial and technical responsibilities of supporting hundreds of exchanges and trading venues. This role will be responsible for a range of network and automation responsibilities. The venue services team are responsible for owning the technical requirements as it relates to the hundreds of exchanges and trading venues on PicoNet, Pico's global network. This work translates into millions of data points which need to be accurately provided to the network engineering teams, and with the mass of information the role requires excellent automation skills and network related knowledge.
Responsibilities and duties (include but not limited to)
- Manage the technical relationship with a wide range of global exchanges and trading venues, understanding how the services provided by these venues operate at a network level.
- Translation of network connectivity information for global exchanges and trading venues, into the Pico internal standard, which is used to drive automation on the Pico network.
- Work closely with the venue services commercial and licensing team to ensure network configuration and ACLs are aligned to client data entitlements.
- Handle changes driven by exchange or trading venues by assessing impact on Pico supported services and clients and providing technical change requirements to network implementation teams ensuring Pico is always one step ahead of any changes or upgrades.
- Work closely with the network automation team to enforce standards and continually fight against manual effort in maintaining Pico data.
- Drive improvements around automation of data collection and data validation to help ensure accuracy and integrity of venue connectivity data.
Education, skills and background (incl. Education and Experience Requirements)
- Degree level education with 5+ years of experience in a network related profession, ideally in capital markets.
- An excellent communicator both written and verbal.
- A multi-tasker, interfacing with all other departments in Pico, and keeping multiple programs on track at the same time.
- An incredible attention to detail and concern for data content and quality.
- Python, bash, advanced excel.
- Good understanding of the characteristics of TCP vs UDP regarding reliability and statefulness and the role of network infrastructure regarding TCP/UDP.
- Understanding of Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF) in highly distributed environments, Multicast Routing (IGMP, PIM), NAT (Static, Dynamic).
- Expertise with network-as-code - Python, Jinja2 Templating, JSON/YAML data structures, CI/CD pipelines, and toolsets such as Git/GitLab/Docker.
- Familiarity with any of these network automation tools; Ansible, Netmiko, Napalm or Nornir.
- Experience with virtualized environment configuration capabilities – VMs, containers.
- Experience with one or more Databases – MySQL, Postgres, InfluxDB, Prometheus.
- Understanding of Linux at a network and system level.
- Familiarity with NetBox, NetBox plugin development & Ansible AWX.
