Job Summary
We are looking for a Kitchen Assistant to set up the dining area and servery for lunchtime, receive food deliveries, perform food safety checks, and maintain high hygiene standards. The role involves serving hot meals to children, tidying and cleaning the dining area and servery after service, and supporting health and safety by reporting hazards. You will work cooperatively with school staff to support daily operations.
Hours: 15 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (term time, excluding TD days).
Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 11.30am to 2.30pm.
Responsibilities
- Set up dining area and servery for lunchtime service.
- Receive and check food deliveries; ensure food safety and hygiene standards are met.
- Serve hot meals to children efficiently and courteously.
- Clean and tidy the dining area and servery after service.
- Support health and safety by reporting hazards and cooperating with staff.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability to work with children in a school environment.
- Good numeracy and communication skills.
- Knowledge of basic food safety and hygiene practices.
- Willingness to work within school policies and safeguarding procedures.

Note: This role is a temporary, fixed-term position to cover sickness absence. The role will end when the substantive postholder returns or by 31 August 2026, whichever is earlier.
