QLM Search is working in partnership with Pickstock Telford to appoint a Head of Sales & Commercial, a senior leadership role with full accountability for the commercial direction, performance, and capability of the business.
This is an end-to-end commercial position. You will lead Sales, Commercial Planning and pricing strategy, shaping how the business trades today while building a more resilient, data-led and integrated commercial function for the future.
The Opportunity
This role exists to bring clarity, structure and leadership across sales, planning and pricing, ensuring commercial ambition is grounded in operational reality. You will own the commercial strategy, balancing growth, margin and risk, while working closely with Operations, Livestock Procurement and Finance to align demand, supply and capacity. Just as importantly, you will build and further develop a successful commercial team setting standards, direction and accountability. This is a senior role for someone comfortable operating at pace, close to the detail, and visible on site.
Responsibilities
- Setting and delivering the commercial strategy across sales, pricing and planning
- Leading an integrated Sales & Planning process aligned to livestock intake, production capability and customer demand
- Owning pricing strategy, using market data, indices and competitor insight to protect margin
- Leading key customer relationships and commercial negotiations
- Strengthening commercial data, systems and reporting to support better decision-making
- Driving digital and process improvement across the commercial function
- Working with Finance and General Management on budgets, forecasts and KPIs
- Building a capable, accountable commercial team through coaching, development and succession planning
- Embedding sustainability, animal welfare and compliance into commercial decision-making
What We're Looking For
- Senior commercial leadership experience within food manufacturing – ideally meat.
- Strong understanding of beef or protein markets, including carcass balance, pricing and margin management
- Experience leading integrated sales and planning activity in complex environments
- A hands-on, visible leadership style with strong operational awareness
- Commercially sharp, data-led and able to turn insight into action
- Confident engaging with customers, suppliers, farmers and internal stakeholders
- A leader who enjoys developing teams, not inheriting finished ones
