The Pickering Group is a family-owned, UK-based electronics manufacturer established in 1968, specializing in high-quality switching, simulation, and relay products for industries like aerospace, automotive, and defense.
The Toolmaker is responsible for the manufacture, repair and modification of injection mould tools within the workshop. Working with a range of manual and CNC machinery — including Mills, Lathes, Surface Grinders, Spark Eroders and Wire Eroders — the role requires the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and apply strong bench work skills to deliver accurate, high-quality results.
The position sits within a general toolmaking and engineering environment and supports the day-to-day operational needs of the business. Over time, the role is expected to develop to include an element of project and team management responsibility.
CAD skills are required, with SolidWorks and AutoCAD being the preferred platforms. CNC milling experience using Mazak (Mazatrol) and Bridgeport (Heidenhain) operating systems is also relevant to the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake the repair and modification of injection mould tools
- Manufacture new mould tools to specification
- Read and interpret technical engineering drawings accurately
- Operate manual machines including Mills, Lathes and Surface Grinders
- Operate manual Spark Eroders
- Support CNC milling operations using Mazak (Mazatrol) and Bridgeport (Heidenhain) operating systems
- Contribute to project management activities in support of business growth
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Proven, demonstrable track record in a Toolmaking role with strong bench work skills
- Solid experience in injection mould toolmaking
- Experience operating manual machinery including Mills, Lathes and Grinders
- Experience using manual Spark Eroders
- CAD experience, preferably with SolidWorks and AutoCAD
Desirable:
- Experience using Wire Eroders (training can be provided for the right candidate)
- CNC Milling experience using Mazak/Mazatrol and Bridgeport/Heidenhain systems
