Pick Everard is a leading UK consultancy with a 160‑year heritage of delivering iconic public‑sector developments. We’re looking for a Senior Ecologist to join our growing ecology team across the UK. If you thrive on field‑based work, data analysis, and producing high‑quality ecological reports, we want to hear from you.

Core Responsibilities

  • Organise and lead field surveys and monitor progress.
  • Undertake analysis and review ecological data for accuracy and quality.
  • Produce ecological reports, including specific assessments and management plans.
  • Support Ecological Clerk‑of‑Works roles.
  • Identify and develop strategies on ecological constraints and opportunities on potential projects.
  • Prepare work and fee proposals and contribute to project bidding.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and stakeholders on technical strategy and advice.
  • Understand Health and Safety issues relevant to surveying and report any hazards onsite, supporting risk‑avoidance measures.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience appraising projects for potential ecological constraints and opportunities.
  • Experience surveying UK habitats – ideally FISC 4 botanical skills or the ability to achieve them within 12 months.
  • Experience in survey design and mitigation for protected species and coordination of sub‑consultants.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management at an appropriate level (or equivalent).
  • Experience with the Statutory Biodiversity Metric to evidence Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, case law and planning policy affecting ecology.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and GIS software.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Enjoys outdoor work and is willing to complete field surveys, including antisocial hours.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
