We are looking to appoint a Principal Civil Engineer – Water Engineering to join our team in London to meet our growing business needs and future development aspirations. You’ll be joining a supportive network as part of a national team, and can expect to receive valuable training, guidance and genuine scope for career development.
At Pick Everard, the supply, management and disposal of water are at the core of what we do. We are proud to have a vast pipeline of work for clients including Severn Trent Water, Thames Water, United Utilities, Affinity Water, Yorkshire Water and the Government of Jersey. We also work closely with a number of contractors supporting development of designs in a collaborative working environment.
You will work across an array of clean‑water infrastructure and non‑infrastructure projects as part of our experienced teams in London, Leicester, Manchester and Leeds offices. There will also be opportunity to work across a number of wastewater infrastructure and Better Rivers projects.
Your core responsibilities include:
- Creating designs from feasibility through to construction and leading the technical design of projects for a variety of projects in terms of size, type, and complexity, both single discipline and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Supporting with the appraisal and design of structures and solutions for pumping stations, clean‑water networks, and reservoirs.
- Mentoring junior colleagues and supporting their development.
- Representing the firm at client meetings, contributing to us winning new work.
- Supporting project and team management.
- Contributing your own innovative ideas to help us find affordable, sustainable and low‑carbon solutions for our clients.
About You
- A degree or equivalent in civil engineering, working towards a professional qualification.
- CEng with post chartered relevant experience or IEng with post incorporated relevant experience working in the clean‑water sector.
- Experience managing clean‑water infrastructure schemes.
- Good knowledge of industry design software packages.
- Excellent communication skills and a team player with a confident, positive and enthusiastic attitude.
- A high level broad‑based technical appreciation.
- Very good report writing and presentation skills at project level.
- Experience in a variety of different forms of contract.
- Confident liaising with new and existing clients and an ability to build a good rapport with other parts of our inter‑disciplinary practice, and with external design teams.
- Robust problem solving skills, taking accountability for assigned work.
- The ability to lead a sub‑team, focused on delivery of high quality design output.
- Experience in mentoring and technical management of a design team.
- Experience related to wastewater networks/infrastructure (desirable not essential).
- Previous experience writing and presenting reports along with client interaction and work winning (desirable not essential).
