Care Solicitor (Public Law Children) to build a department. Fully remote. £50,000 to £55,000.
Picasso Legal is a small, fully remote family law firm based in Telford, working across Shropshire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands. We are legal aid specialists, mainly non-molestation orders and private Children Act work, with a steady flow of referrals and a client base that already includes families with social services involvement. We now want a proper care department, and we want you to build it.
What the job is
You will set up and run our public law children work from the first instruction onwards. That means pre-proceedings and care proceedings for parents, Cafcass guardian work once we are on the local panel, and your own advocacy at hearings. You will be our LAA supervisor for public law and will supervise care work as the department grows. You will not be handed a caseload on day one; you will build one, with the firm’s referral base, marketing budget and the director’s time behind you.
What you need
Admitted solicitor with substantial public law children experience, including running your own hearings. Law Society Children Law Accreditation (Children Panel) is essential, because it is what the LAA supervisor standard and Cafcass guardian work require. You should be comfortable working remotely, comfortable with technology (we run LEAP, Microsoft 365 and a good deal of AI-assisted drafting and automation), and happy in a firm with no admin layer where systems do the admin and people do the law.
What you get
£50,000 to £55,000 depending on experience. Genuine remote working, with court attendance in the West Midlands and Staffordshire courts. Practising certificate, Children Panel renewal and Resolution membership paid. A director who is a family solicitor and would rather be in court than in a spreadsheet, and who will back a good plan with money and time. The chance to shape a department rather than inherit one.
What you will not get
A large team around you at the start, a chambers-style support structure, or anyone else to do your typing and bundles. But our plan is that you get to build your team
