We provide industry-relevant qualifications in business and healthcare management, in partnership with leading UK universities. Our focus is to offer an open and inclusive learning and teaching environment for both students and staff. We are also committed to providing access to higher education to those who may not have formal qualifications, financial means or can commit to the schedule of a mainstream university.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for all study centres and branches of FSB under the Board of Directors.
  • Lead academic development of the School and its Study Centres.
  • Lead FSB towards degree‑awarding powers in all disciplines within 2 years.
  • Liaise with senior officers of the School to ensure effective management of Study Centres.
  • Develop effective working relationships with the Director and Board to meet the highest standards of corporate governance.
  • Enhance the reputation of the School for academic excellence, quality and engagement across Study Centres.
  • Influence and advocate on behalf of the School and its interests through active engagement with sector, government, business and alumni.
  • Strategic and operational development and delivery of programme area, ensuring quality standards are maintained and learner experience is outstanding.
  • Manage and coordinate academic and pastoral support for all students, including Personal Development Plans.
  • Liaise closely with Team Leaders and Course Coordinators to ensure curriculum is developed and delivered within and across years of study and assessments are rigorous and relevant.
  • Develop employer, corporate and community links that enhance learner experience and promote programmes to external audiences.
  • Engage with quality management and committee structures, liaise with External Examiners, awarding bodies, produce programme and module annual reports and monitor action plans.
  • Work closely with Registry and HR teams to agree an annual and term‑based timetable reflecting programme and student interests within resource constraints.
  • Manage performance of staff within subject field through matrix line management structure and contribute to annual appraisal.
  • Monitor and improve academic and organisational performance of all students on the programme, manage complaints and conduct disciplinary actions as appropriate.
  • Manage marketing and promotional activity related to the programme area, including prospectus, student handbook and open days.
  • Maintain appropriate dialogues and relationships with subject community nationally and internationally, updating knowledge of academic developments, subject and skills and relevant industrial and technological developments.
  • Teach an annually agreed timetable and allocate marking as demand requires within reasonable workloads.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Postgraduate degree and Level 7 teaching qualification.
  • Involved in a higher education institute with extensive experience in design, development and delivery of higher education.
  • Experience in quality assurance and maintaining standards, validation of programmes (vocational, undergraduate and postgraduate level).
  • Management skills including education experience and experience working with External Examiner.
  • Membership of Advance HE.

Person Specification

  • Academic and/or professional qualifications to Masters degree in Business Management or relevant subject.
  • Extensive teaching experience in higher education at FHEQ level.
  • Experience in teaching Home/EU and International students.
  • Relevant experience reflecting the nature of the appointment.
  • Strong English writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of Microsoft (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access).
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience of communicating effectively with staff and students.
  • Effective management and leadership skills appropriate to an education environment.
  • Understanding of issues involved in successfully integrating high‑quality teaching and business development activities within an academic setting.
  • Ability to direct the development of the subjects/disciplines represented in the Business Department.
  • Ability to manage performance and develop staff both individually and in teams.
  • Ability to chair formal and informal meetings.
  • Ability to command respect – a combination of a personal academic record of significant achievements, relevant senior‑level experience inside higher education and knowledge of the Business Department.
  • Flexible approach, independent and proactive, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation.

Additional desirable experience: ambitious, innovative and entrepreneurial. Candidates would not only be comfortable with change management but would positively thrive in exciting dynamic environments. Experience of both public and private HEIs would be advantageous but not essential.
