Fairfield School of Business (FSB), an OFS registered private higher education provider founded in 2006 with campuses in London, Birmingham, Leicester and Luton. We provide industry-relevant qualifications in business and healthcare management, in partnership with leading UK universities.

Our focus is to offer an open and inclusive learning and teaching environment for both students and staff. We are also committed to providing access to higher education to those who may not have formal qualifications, financial means or can commit to the schedule of a mainstream university.

We are currently seeking to appoint an Academic Team Lead on a Full-time, permanent basis.

Job Purpose

The overall aims of the post are to develop and implement an excellent learning experience for the students by closely coordinating and supporting the campus Dean. The position holder will have an established teaching reputation, with evidence of specialist knowledge in their particular discipline and teaching/professional experience in the subject to be able to deliver and advance established teaching programs at FSB.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities For Role

Responsibilities As Team Leader

  • To support the Dean/HR in staff hiring, performance management and quality control.
  • To supervise and mentor the campus teaching and academic support team of the responsible subject area.
  • To manage and lead the specific discipline(s)/course(s) on-campus level by liaising with the Dean, course leader and all student support teams.
  • To ensure the quality and standards of the course(s) are met, as expected by the management/quality department/University partner.
  • To produce a high level of student success rates by closely monitoring the teaching performance of the team.
  • To propose timely interventions for identified areas of improvement by the lecturers, academic support center or the management.
  • To assign tasks to the academic support team for student engagement, where required to guide and support the course coordinators and guide module leaders.
  • To liaise with the campus coordinators and module leaders and ensure the effective flow of information for other campuses and head office.
  • To work as Lead Personal Academic Tutor for the discipline and provide reports to the Management as expected.
  • To organise timetables as advised by the Dean on the workload distribution.
  • To organise teaching covers, manage staffing gaps through redeployment of resources and maintain teaching staff discipline.
  • To ensure the delivery and marking deadlines of entire team are met at all times.
  • To conduct lesson/teaching observations in line with the relevant policy
  • To attend any committees/meetings as part of your role and/or nominated by Dean.
  • To facilitate and achieve high response rate in the surveys, such as mid-term survey, end of module evaluation and NSS.

Responsibilities As a Lecturer

  • To teach foundation to graduate level in areas allocated by the Dean and reviewed from time to time.
  • To contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high-quality curriculum and facilitate the academic quality assurance process.
  • To assist in the development of learning materials, preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
  • To participate in departmental and FSB-wide seminars and workshops aimed at sharing teaching outcomes and building interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department.
  • To supervise or assist with the supervision of the student dissertations, where appropriate.
  • To participate in the development, administration and marking of exams and other assessments within the time bounds stipulated by the course leader/management.
  • To manage the learning experience, for learners to understand the aims and objectives of the course as required by FSB and the awarding body/University.
  • To use appropriate and varied teaching techniques to ensure high standards, high retention and high success.
  • To monitor and assess the learners performance to encourage learners to achieve the set objectives and maximise retention, achievement and success rates.
  • To provide pastoral care and support to students as Academic Support, Personal Academic Tutor and during Office Hours.
  • To engage students via face to face meetings, phone calls, emails and text messages during academic support and office hours.
  • To closely monitor student attendance and performance in the relevant classes, and intervene to ensure support for the students in achieving academic success.
  • To help maintain student welfare and discipline, providing guidance and counselling as a personal tutor and in consultation with student support services.
  • To support admissions and enrolment process by conducting academic interviews and contributing to the student orientation week.
  • To liaise with other members, including attendance at Course Committee and other meetings relating to the course, as appropriate.
  • To contribute to departmental, faculty, or FSB-wide committees, as required.
  • To maintain own continuing professional development in line with FSB\’s expectations.
  • To actively follow and promote FSB policies, including Equal Opportunities.
  • To maintain an awareness and observation of health and safety aspects of staff and students following FSB\’s policy.
  • To ensure GDPR is followed in relation to the student and staff data.
  • To participate in the administration of the departments programmes of study and other activities, as requested by the Dean/management.

Note: The above list is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post. All academic staff are expected to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to academic excellence; that is, to conduct teaching and enable other forms of knowledge transfer, at the highest levels.
