You will install new lifting equipment, perform servicing and annual testing, and ensure our systems operate safely and reliably in a variety of factory environments. While previous experience in an engineering environment is desirable, we believe strongly in hiring for attitude and potential and training for skills. You will work autonomously in the field but be fully supported by our internal and external engineering teams, management, and branch structure.
Key Responsibilities
- Install Piab lifting and handling equipment at customer sites, working closely with other engineers to ensure safe, high‑quality installations.
- Perform routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance, including annual testing and certifications of installed equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and basic electrical issues on‑site, using your initiative and problem‑solving skills.
- Work safely and in compliance with relevant standards, customer site rules, and Piab’s health & safety procedures.
- Provide clear, professional communication to customers on the status of work, any issues identified, and recommended actions.
- Complete accurate service reports, test certificates, and any required documentation in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with the wider engineering and branch teams to coordinate installations, share best practices, and continuously improve our service.
- Represent Piab professionally at all times, being polite, presentable, and focused on delivering an excellent customer experience.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to build your technical expertise and stay current with Piab products and solutions.
- Self‑sufficient and reliable engineer who can manage their own schedule and workload in the field.
- Strong team player who can work closely and effectively with other engineers and colleagues.
- Comfortable problem‑solving mechanical issues and taking initiative to get things done.
- Practical mindset with hands‑on skills; experience with a range of tools is desirable (training will be provided).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to customers and colleagues.
- Polite, professional, and presentable, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
- Able to work in a variety of factory environments (e.g. logistics, pharmaceutical, manufacturing) and adapt to different customer sites.
- Willing and able to travel extensively within the UK and spend 3–6 nights per month away from home.
- Value‑driven personality aligned with Piab’s culture: accountable, curious, collaborative, and committed to continuous improvement.
Experience & Education
- Work experience as an engineer, ideally in a field‑based/on‑site role.
- Familiarity with lifting equipment, industrial automation, or related industries – an advantage but not required.
