Overview
Senior Delivery Manager β’ City of London β’ Β£120,000
Role Purpose
You will be the founding leader of my clientβs delivery capability, shaping and embedding an agile, product-led delivery culture across Digital Solutions. This is a senior, hands-on delivery leadership role, working very closely with Product Leads and their product teams to enable high-performing, outcome-focused delivery. You are not accountable for delivering the product itself (that sits with Product Leads and Product Owners). Instead, you are accountable for the effectiveness and delivery capability of teams, ensuring the right conditions exist for successful delivery and sustainable change. As the delivery function grows, you will lead and line-manage Delivery Managers, and help establish delivery as a trusted, enabling partner to Product, Technology, and the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivery Leadership & Agile Practice
- Act as the senior delivery leader, setting standards and expectations for agile delivery across teams.
- Establish, embed, and mature agile delivery practices (Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid).
- Partner closely with Product Leads, Product Managers, and Product Owners to enable delivery that is outcome-led rather than output-driven.
- Translate OKRs and strategic goals into clear, transparent quarterly delivery plans.
- Ensure delivery progress is visible, explainable, and value-focused at team and portfolio level.
- Team & People Enablement
- Be accountable for team health, flow, and delivery effectiveness, removing impediments and improving ways of working.
- Coach teams to improve velocity, predictability, and quality, without sacrificing sustainability.
- Roll up your sleeves and actively support teams day-to-day when needed.
- Line-manage, coach, and develop Delivery Managers (and potentially Business Change Managers as the capability grows).
- Business Change & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Play a key role in landing change into the business, working with Business Change, BA, and operational stakeholders.
- Help assess business readiness for change and ensure new products and services are successfully embedded.
- Facilitate collaboration between Product, Technology, Business Change, and senior stakeholders.
- Use strong business analysis skills where helpful to clarify outcomes, dependencies, and impacts.
- Governance & Portfolio Oversight
- Own portfolio-level delivery governance.
- Provide leadership with clear, honest insight into delivery risks.
- Help build trust in delivery as a partner.
What This Role Is Not
- Not a Project Manager or Programme Manager role.
- No Prince2 / traditional waterfall delivery mindset.
- Not an Agile Coach role (though coaching skills are important).
- Not accountable for 'delivering the product' - accountability sits with Product Leads.
Essential β Required Experience & Background
- Proven experience as a Delivery Manager in agile, product-led environments.
- Agile and/or Scrum certification.
- Extensive experience working closely with Product Managers, Product Leads, and Product Owners.
- Demonstrable focus on: Outcomes over outputs; Team health and delivery improvement; Improving flow, velocity, and predictability; Experience establishing agile ways of working, not just inheriting them.
- Strong business change experience - understanding how to embed change into operational environments.
Desirable
- Background as a Business Analyst or Scrum Master before moving into Delivery Management.
- Experience leading or mentoring other Delivery Managers.
- Experience working across multiple industries.
Target Backgrounds / Industries
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience delivering digital products and online services in environments such as:
- Digital Media
- Large Government Departments
- Digitally mature insurers or financial services
- Technology product companies
- Retail & e-commerce
Experience in e-commerce, online transactions, apps, platforms, data, or AI-enabled services is key.
