The High-Energy Theory and Algebraic Geometry & Mathematical Physics groups at the University of Sheffield invite applications for PhD positions starting October 1, 2026. Two funded positions are available, with the possibility of additionally supervising strong self‑funded students.

1) Faculty of Science Studentship (PI: Marco Fazzi)

Projects:

  • Holographic black holes and their microstates via exact QFT methods;
  • Moduli spaces of QFTs and bow varieties;
  • Quantum phase transitions via topology- and symmetry-aware AI.

Eligibility: Only applicants with home status (UK/Irish residents) can be considered for the funded position. Strong self‑funded candidates (home or overseas) are also welcome.
