An executive search firm is looking to fill the position of Associate Director Medical Affairs, Immunology for a pharmaceutical company located in San Francisco, CA. The Associate Director Medical Affairs will provide authoritative leadership of the multi‑disciplinary clinical teams and lead the clinical development and support of new and ongoing clinical research and/or commercialization and post‑marketing programs for assigned molecule(s) or program(s).
Responsibilities
- Strategizes, designs, implements, monitors, and evaluates clinical trials and creates and implements Phase IV commercialization strategies
- Serves as internal consultant and externally to government regulatory agencies
- Responsible for delivering program on time and within budget
- Manages across multiple projects and provides guidance to Medical Director regarding design and strategy
- Drives team strategy as leader or advises as manager of team leader
- Advises peers and senior leadership on strategic issues
- Experienced partner with Regulatory at FDA and other Agency meetings
- Provides leadership and valued input into Lifecycle Plan as well as other major commercial strategies
- Can synthesize marketing and post‑marketing strategies
- Establishes clear goals and develops Medical Director team and drives organizational strategy, planning and communication
- Creates a framework for team norms and continuous quality
- Builds expertise in understanding and initiating cross‑functional programs within Development
- Communicates Medical Director roles, processes, strategies to other groups to enable these groups to work effectively
- Strong facilitator of group discussions
- Interfaces with external analysts; review at RRC, DRC, PMRC, CSRS and others
Qualifications
- An M.D. with board certification or eligibility required
- Clinical trial experience and academic/teaching experience
- At least 5 years of clinical trial experience either within an academic environment or industry and/or equivalent industry experience
- At least 2 years managing Medical Directors/Clinical staff
- Experience in biopharmaceuticals, cancer cell biology or drug development, either within an academic environment or within the biopharmaceutical industry
- Broad understanding of drug development and post‑marketing support, and either Phase I–III or Phase IV development
- Previous management experience of other Medical Directors required
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills, in addition to excellent written and verbal communication skills, a must
- Detailed understanding of clinical program design and conduct
- Strong matrix management skills essential, some line management experience is preferred
