We’re looking for a hands-on Depot General Manager to lead a busy, fast-paced operation with full accountability for service delivery, fleet performance, and people leadership across the region. You’ll manage a team of drivers and operational colleagues working both in the depot and remotely, ensuring services are delivered safely, on time, and to a high standard for our customers. This is a role for a strong, visible leader who thrives in a reactive, field-based environment and can balance performance, cost control, and customer outcomes.

Your role as Depot General Manager at phs South Kirkby:

  • Lead depot and field-based teams with strong on-site presence, driving high performance, accountability and engagement.
  • Oversee planning, routing and utilisation to maximise productivity and service delivery.
  • Own depot performance, driving high service completion and right-first-time delivery.
  • Manage service issues, escalations and failures in real time.
  • Drive continuous improvement in operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead, coach and develop managers and frontline teams, setting clear expectations and holding teams accountable for standards and performance.
  • Manage conduct, absence and performance effectively and consistently.
  • Act as depot lead for Health & Safety, always ensuring safe work practices, compliance, incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure teams are trained, competent and compliant with company and legal requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with environmental and waste regulations, including documentation and audit readiness, and that vehicles and drivers meet all legal and company standards.
  • Drive sustainability, cost control and operational improvements.
  • Oversee Class 2 (Category C) vehicle operations in line with UK legislation and company policy, and ensure drivers hold valid Category C licences, Driver CPC and tachograph cards.
  • Monitor driver hours, tachograph and Working Time Directive compliance.
  • Ensure vehicle checks, defect reporting and maintenance schedules are adhered to.
  • Promote safe driving standards including load security and compliance with weight limits.
  • Support incident investigations and drive preventative improvements.
  • Ensure ongoing driver training, competence and route risk awareness.
  • Deliver performance in line with budget and cost targets, identifying and reducing inefficiencies and balancing service delivery with cost and resource optimisation.

The ideal candidate for Depot General Manager at phs will have:

  • Proven leadership experience in a depot, logistics or field-based operation.
  • Experience managing drivers, fleet or remote teams.
  • Strong focus on operational performance and customer outcomes.
  • Confident, hands-on leader who can manage performance and drive accountability.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, reactive environment.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety and compliance requirements.
  • Strong communicator, able to influence at all levels.
  • Manager CPC COTC NEBOSH (or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence.
