Brightbulb is a creative agency based in Sandown on the Isle of Wight, specializing in blending design, technology, and human insight to deliver thoughtful, high-quality websites, applications, and digital experiences for ambitious UK brands. We prioritize clean code, strong collaboration, and building elegant, practical solutions.
We are seeking a highly competent, full-time Web Developer for a 6-month fixed term. This is a hands-on, full-stack position where you will collaborate closely with designers and project managers to deliver bespoke web solutions. Primary technologies include PHP, WordPress, and Laravel. You will contribute to technical decisions across projects, working across backend architecture, databases, and polished, responsive front-end builds. This role is mostly remote but requires some visits to the Isle of Wight HQ.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain bespoke WordPress themes and plugins.
- Build and support Laravel-based applications.
- Write clean, secure, and maintainable PHP code.
- Collaborate closely with designers to achieve pixel-accurate implementations.
- Optimise performance, security, and scalability across all projects.
- Debug, maintain, and extend existing websites and applications.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical standards, and best practices.
- Strong commercial experience with PHP.
- Advanced WordPress development, including custom theme builds, custom plugin development, ACF and bespoke content architectures.
- Solid experience working with Laravel.
- Strong understanding of MySQL / relational databases.
- Experience with Git and modern development workflows.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Required language: English.
Required work authorisation: United Kingdom.

- Experience with React.
- Working knowledge of Tailwind CSS.
- Shopify theme development and customisation.
