As a Senior Drupal & WordPress Tech Lead, you will assume a critical technical and strategic leadership role. You will design, build, and maintain scalable digital solutions for international humanitarian organizations. This position requires more than just hands‐on development; you will guide technical architecture, enforce code quality and best practices, and mentor development staff, all while contributing directly to meaningful, real‐world impact.
Relief Applications manages multiple parallel projects, demanding strong architectural expertise, adaptability, and leadership. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, humanitarian experts, and developers to deliver robust, secure, and high‐performance platforms utilized by global institutions, including UN agencies, Red Cross societies, and international NGOs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technical Leadership (Drupal-Focused)
- Act as the primary Technical Lead for Drupal and WordPress projects.
- Define and enforce Drupal best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines.
- Lead Drupal 9/10 site architecture, multisite configurations, and complex content modeling efforts.
- Design scalable solutions utilizing custom modules, APIs, and system integrations.
- Review code, provide constructive technical feedback, and mentor junior/mid‐level developers.
- Hands‐On Development
- Develop and maintain custom Drupal modules and specialized WordPress plugins.
- Build secure, performant, and maintainable PHP solutions.
- Implement advanced theming using Twig, Tailwind/Bootstrap, and modern frontend development practices.
- Integrate third‐party services, REST/JSON APIs, and external data sources.
- Optimize platform performance, security, and accessibility (WCAG compliance).
- Architecture & DevOps
- Design CMS architectures tailored to humanitarian workflows and specific data needs.
- Work with Symfony components, and optionally Laravel for microservices or API development.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, Docker‐based environments, and Git workflows.
- Ensure database integrity and performance using MySQL.
- Support cloud and server environments (Linux‐based infrastructure).
- Collaboration & Delivery
- Work effectively in an agile, fast‐paced, multi‐project environment.
- Translate functional and humanitarian requirements into precise technical solutions.
- Collaborate cross‐functionally with non‐technical stakeholders.
- Participate actively in technical planning, estimations, and roadmap discussions.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- 5+ years of PHP development experience, with strong expertise in Drupal and/or WordPress.
- Deep understanding of Drupal core, contributed modules, and custom module development.
- Strong knowledge of CMS architecture, content modeling, and configuration management.
- Advanced experience with Git, branching strategies, and conducting code reviews.
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.
- Solid understanding of security principles, performance optimization, and scalability.
Strong Plus
- Experience with Symfony and/or Laravel frameworks.
- Experience with Headless or decoupled CMS architectures.
- Experience working with international organizations or NGOs.
- Exposure to data collection platforms, dashboards, or mobile integrations.
