The Compliance Officer / Head of Compliance, UK is responsible for ensuring that the API operates in full compliance with UK regulatory requirements, including the Payment Services Regulations 2017 (PSRs), FCA Handbook, AML/CTF legislation, and SM&CR obligations. The role supports senior management in maintaining a robust compliance framework proportionate to the firm’s risk profile.

Job Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Maintain and oversee the firm’s compliance framework in line with Payment Services Regulations 2017 (PSRs), FCA Handbook and UK AML regime (MLRs 2017 as amended).
- Advise the Board and senior management on regulatory obligations, changes, and risks.
- Act as a key point of contact with the FCA, including responding to regulatory enquiries, information requests, and thematic reviews.
- Support regulatory reporting obligations (e.g. REP returns, change-in-control notifications, material change notifications).
- AML/CFT Oversight
- Implement and maintain AML/CTF policies, procedures, and controls proportionate to the firm’s activities.
- Oversee Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), ongoing monitoring and transaction monitoring frameworks, Sanctions screening and PEP controls.
- Work closely with the MLRO (or act as MLRO) on SAR decision-making and submission to the NCA, Enterprise-wide AML risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with UK and international sanctions regimes.
- Safeguarding Client Funds
- Oversee compliance with safeguarding requirements under the PSRs: Segregation of client funds, reconciliation and record-keeping, safeguarding audit readiness.
- Review safeguarding policies and ensure appropriate escalation of issues.
- SM&CR & Conduct Risk
- Support implementation and ongoing compliance with the Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR).
- Promote a strong compliance culture and conduct risk awareness across the firm.
- Draft, review, and maintain compliance policies and procedures.
- Deliver compliance and AML training to staff and senior management.
- Provide day-to-day compliance advice to product, operations, and business teams, including new products and changes to business models.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance; or equivalent work experience; professional certifications in AML/CTF (e.g., CAMS, ICA) are highly desirable.
- Over 7 years experience in regulatory compliance roles within the financial services sector, payment industry, or related fields.
- Strong working knowledge of UK payments regulation and the FCA Handbook.
- Proven track record of implementing and managing AML/CTF compliance programs, conducting risk assessments, and investigating suspicious activities in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving capabilities.
- Proactive, results-driven, and take ownership for their work.
