We are pleased to announce an incredible opportunity to join us at Phoenix Group as a Credit Research Senior Analyst (Infrastructure) within our Asset Management function. The focus of this role is assigning and monitoring internal ratings to support the origination function and protect the Phoenix balance sheet.

This role will suit those with specific experience in infrastructure, including infrastructure corporate, project finance, and real assets, as well as credit ratings.

Job Type: Permanent

Location: Based in our London office, with some flexibility for hybrid work. We will discuss your preferences during the recruitment process.

Salary and Benefits: £70,000 – £110,000 (dependent on experience) + bonus, pension, medical insurance, electric vehicle scheme, 38 days holiday including Bank Holidays, life assurance, career breaks, income protection, volunteering days, and more!

Role Context

The Credit Research Senior Analyst will contribute independently to the Credit Research and Ratings Team within Global Investment Research and Ratings. Responsibilities include assigning internal ratings to private credit/illiquid assets in infrastructure, conducting transaction reviews, sector deep dives, and ensuring compliance with CRA guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Focus on infrastructure: corporate, project finance, and real assets.
  • Assign internal credit ratings for unrated assets, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Provide preliminary ratings for new investments based on limited data.
  • Integrate ESG factors into analysis.
  • Monitor ratings and portfolio, conduct reviews, and support waiver and workout processes.
  • Act as secondary analyst, providing assurance and challenge.

Credit Rating Methodologies

  • Maintain understanding of CRA rating methodologies.
  • Contribute to development and maintenance of methodologies and documentation.

Governance, Data, and Regulation

  • Participate in governance and support related committees.
  • Manage data requirements and produce team outputs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and PRA expectations.

Stakeholder Management

  • Internal: Chief Credit Officer, Credit Team, Risk, and others.
  • External: Banks, advisors, sponsors, rating agencies, consultants.

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of credit rating processes and methodologies.
  • Ability to conduct independent credit analysis.
  • Experience with sector Risk IDs, scorecards, and financial models.
  • Ability to communicate credit quality effectively.

Desirable:

  • Experience with distressed transactions and CRA data platforms.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and represent the firm externally.
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
