Overview of the role:

Our client a leading global mid cap investment management firm are seeking a highly experienced and commercially astute Senior Funds Lawyerto join their London office on an interim basis.

This individual will provide expert legal guidance across their fund range, with a particular focus on regulatory, structuring, and governance matters impacting our UCITS and alternative investment funds. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting product development and business growth across the UK and European markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise on legal and regulatory matters relating to fund formation, structuring, and maintenance across UCITS and AIF platforms.
  • Provide legal support for the launch of new funds and share classes, working closely with internal product, compliance, and distribution teams.
  • Liaise with external counsel, regulators, depositaries, and administrators to ensure smooth product lifecycle management.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving UK and EU regulations (e.g., AIFMD, UCITS, SFDR) and assess their impact on fund products and operations.
  • Draft and review fund documentation including prospectuses, constitutional documents, and service provider agreements.
  • Support cross-border marketing and distribution efforts from a legal and regulatory perspective.
  • Contribute to internal governance processes, including fund board meetings and regulatory filings.

Requirement:

  • Qualified solicitor (UK or equivalent) with 7+ years’ PQE, ideally gained in-house within an asset manager or at a top-tier law firm.
  • Deep knowledge of fund structures, particularly UCITS and AIFs, and relevant UK/EU regulations.
  • Strong understanding of distribution frameworks across key European markets.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage complex legal projects.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to partner effectively across legal, compliance, investment, and distribution teams.
  • Proven ability to operate independently and provide pragmatic, solutions-oriented advice.
  • Prior experience with ESG-related regulation (SFDR, taxonomy) and cross-border legal issues is advantageous.
