Role Description
The London News Correspondent is a full-time, on-site role based in the London Area, United Kingdom. This position is responsible for sourcing, researching, and reporting news stories relevant to audiences in Greater China and global Chinese communities, with a focus on political, economic, social, and cultural developments in the UK and Europe. Daily tasks include conducting interviews, attending press conferences and events, verifying facts, and producing timely news reports, feature stories, and live updates for television and digital platforms. The correspondent will collaborate closely with editors, producers, camera crews, and digital teams to plan coverage, develop story angles, and deliver multimedia content in line with Phoenix TV’s editorial standards. The role also involves monitoring breaking news, building and maintaining contacts, and adapting coverage for cross-platform distribution.
Qualifications
- Strong news writing and general writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and engaging stories under tight deadlines.
- Editorial and research skills to identify newsworthy angles, verify information, and adhere to professional journalistic standards.
- Multimedia skills, including experience working with television, digital video, or online news formats, and familiarity with cross-platform storytelling.
- Professional experience as a journalist or correspondent, ideally covering international or UK/European news for broadcast or digital media.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative newsroom environment.
- Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) and strong working proficiency in English; additional European languages are an advantage.
- Solid understanding of UK and European current affairs, politics, business, and culture, and the ability to interpret events for Chinese-speaking audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media, Communications, International Relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends
