An established and growing logistics business is looking for an experienced Customs & Excise Manager to take ownership of its customs, excise and bonded warehouse operations. This is a specialist management position where you will be responsible for ensuring robust customs processes, maintaining HMRC compliance, managing bonded stock and supporting the business in minimising duty liability.

The Role:

  • Lead the customs and excise function, ensuring all processes, systems and procedures operate effectively and in line with current legislation.
  • Manage customs, excise and bonded warehouse operations.
  • Maintain full compliance with HMRC requirements.
  • Take ownership of bonded stock and associated records.
  • Manage W5D processes and daily reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate commodity codes and duty classifications.
  • Complete monthly W1 returns.
  • Manage customs clearance processes across imports and exports.
  • Oversee CFSP requirements and customs declarations.
  • Manage bonded stock discrepancies, damaged stock and controlled disposals.
  • Review and improve customs procedures and controls.
  • Support audits, compliance reviews and HMRC enquiries.
  • Work closely with operations, finance and customers to resolve customs-related issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary duty exposure.

We're looking for an experienced customs professional who can demonstrate:

  • Strong experience within customs, excise, freight forwarding, logistics or bonded warehousing.
  • Previous experience managing or supervising a customs function.
  • Strong knowledge of HMRC customs procedures and compliance.
  • Experience with bonded stock / bonded warehouse environments.
  • Knowledge of CFSP, AEO and customs declarations.
  • Experience with W5D and W1 processes would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of import, export and duty requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The confidence to take ownership of compliance and operational decisions.
