PSI supply specialist equipment designed and manufactured in-house for the advanced materials industry. Our technology is sold throughout the world and offers customers a research or production scale machine to process feedstock material into a refined, alloyed, highly valuable metal powder product.
An Electrical Designer creates detailed schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams for automated systems. When utilising PLD (Programmable Logic Device) controllers, they design custom hardware configurations, program logic sequences to operate machinery safely, and provide essential technical documentation to ensure proper system build and installation.
Key Responsibilities:- Hardware Design: Create detailed electrical schematics and control panel layouts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN).
- Component Selection: Specify relays, contactors, sensors, cable ratings and safety devices based on system requirements.
- Documentation: Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), cable schedules, I/O maps, and terminal strip layouts for manufacturing.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all designs comply with relevant engineering codes and machinery safety standards (e.g., IEC, CE, UL and ATEX).
- Testing & Commissioning: Support the workshop during panel build and participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and on-site commissioning.
- Experience of 3-phase system design and installations.
- Experience of working with complex electromechanical assemblies as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience of component or sub-system level ownership and timely delivery.
- Experience in supplier/3rd party collaboration and in successfully sub-contracting project deliverables.
- Able to perform detailed calculations on electrical circuits based on component ratings and top-level system requirements.
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver to strict deadlines as part of a cross-functional project team.
- Field troubleshooting experience.
- Experience in training/supervising junior engineers.
- Experience in system level HAZOPs.
- DFMEA on system and component level.
- PLC/PLD programming experience, i.e. write, configure, and troubleshoot control logic sequences using PLDs, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces).
- Experience of working with induction coils, busbar cooling circuits, and large-scale power supplies.
A degree, HND, or apprenticeship in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
Software Skills:Proficiency in 2D/3D electrical CAD tools.
Travel:Flexibility to travel abroad as required by the business needs. The role is based at PSI’s Hailsham site but may involve occasional UK travel and short overseas visits in support of our worldwide customer base. Due to the nature of the work this role cannot be fulfilled by working on a remote basis.
Essentials:Full UK Driving Licence and ability to travel globally as required.
