The Sustainability Manager is responsible for driving Phoenix ME’s sustainability strategy across all projects, ensuring full compliance with environmental standards and best practices.

This role involves the end-to-end management of sustainability requirements throughout the project lifecycle, from preconstruction through to practical completion.

The Sustainability Manager will work collaboratively with operational teams to integrate sustainable practices into project delivery and support the achievement of recognised certifications and targets, including BREEAM, WELL, NABERS, and embodied carbon reduction goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide guidance to project teams to ensure sustainability objectives are met, ensuring all legal, client, and Company targets are met or exceeded.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop and implement tailored carbon and sustainability strategies for individual projects, agreeing on clear outcomes and ensuring successful delivery.
  • Drive measurable sustainability outcomes across projects that advance the Company’s sustainability agenda.
  • Actively participate in project meetings to communicate and reinforce sustainability requirements and best practices.
  • Coordinate the collection, verification, and analysis of sustainability data from suppliers and project teams to support accurate reporting and decision-making.
  • Aid in the collection of sustainability information from suppliers and project teams.
  • Lead embodied carbon calculations specifically for MEP equipment to identify opportunities for carbon reduction.
  • Analyse thermal models, calculating and optimising operational energy consumption for projects.
  • Continuously research client sustainability requirements and tailor approaches to align with project-specific goals and requirements.
  • Continuously research emerging sustainability trends, client requirements, and industry best practices to support continuous improvement and innovation within the business.
  • Work with the SLT to shape Phoenix ME’s internal ESG strategy , ensuring it aligns with industry standards.
  • Prepare clear and accurate reports, presentations, and documentation related to emissions data, strategy implementation, regulatory compliance, and client requirements.
  • Develop and contribute to responses for prequalification questionnaires, tenders, and project bids, highlighting the business’s sustainability credentials and capabilities.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Proven experience in a sustainability role or similar (e. g. Environmental Science, Engineering, Building Services)
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills
  • Effective problem-solving, organisational, and negotiating skills
  • In-depth understanding of the construction industry and built environment
  • Ability to persuade and influence stakeholders, building strong relationships
  • Competent in MS 365 Suite, with strong administration and IT skills
  • Knowledge and experience with green building certifications, including BREEAM, WELL and NABERS
  • Knowledge of and experience with electrical or mechanical building services
  • Knowledge and understanding of embodied carbon and operational energy, including how these are impacted by building services
  • BREEAM AP or WELL AP qualified
  • Knowledge and understanding of business sustainability, including ISO 14001, Net Zero Planning, ESOS, and SECR
  • Experience with planning, environmental impact assessments and/or wider sustainability legislation
  • Knowledge and application of building physics packages
