Job Overview

This is a training role within the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies for people with Severe Mental Illness Programme (IAPT-SMI).

Work in Cornwall\'s community mental health services in our Integrated Community Mental Health Team (ICMHT) teams to provide CBT interventions three days per week, while studying at the University of Exeter on the other two days each week with some block weeks of training. You will be able to attend all training with Exeter University; the majority will be delivered online. The intensive training will equip the post holder to provide a cognitive behavioural therapy CBT service to clients with psychosis and bipolar presentations for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective.

Applicants are expected to be able to commit to all training dates to ensure they meet the minimum training standards and course attendance requirements.

Currently there are no funded substantive posts available on qualification.

This job is currently only open to people who already work for the NHS in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly.

Main duties of the job

  • Attend and fulfil all the requirements of the training element of this post.
  • Apply learning from the training programme in practice.
  • Receive supervision from educational providers and NHS service to meet the required academic, clinical and professional standards, in the form of weekly group supervision via University, plus clinical supervision provided by the service.
  • Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies (e.g. BPS, UKCP, BACP, BABCP) and keep up-to-date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g. NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence).
  • Ensure that patient confidentiality is protected at all times, subject to limitations.
  • Be aware of and keep up-to-date with advances in the sphere of CBTp.
  • Ensure clear professional objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with senior clinicians on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.
  • Participate in individual performance review and respond to agreed objectives. An annual assessment of competency in line with NICE/BABCP requirements will be undertaken.
  • Keep up-to-date all records in relation to CPD and ensure personal development plans maintain up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure that client and employee information is kept accurate, confidential and secure at all times, in line with the General Data Protection Regulation and Security and Confidentiality Policies.
  • Ensure storage and destruction of paperwork is in line with legislation and local policies.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures.
  • Fulfil your duty and responsibility for your own health and safety and the health and safety of colleagues, patients and the general public.
  • Understand that certain aspects of the role may involve lone working.
  • Diary and Calendar management.
  • Keep coherent records of all day-to-day procedures in line with service protocols.
  • As required, work flexibly within the contract to provide cover for out of hours service.

IT Systems and Processes

  • Accurately maintain all patient information via Trust electronic patient records system.
  • A moderate level of computer literacy will be required along with accurate data entry skills.
  • To be conversant in the use of electronic communication systems, office systems and Trust systems.
  • Ensure that client and employee information is kept accurate, confidential and secure at all times, in line with the General Data Protection Regulation and Security and Confidentiality Policies.
  • Ensure storage and destruction of paperwork is in line with legislation and Trust policies.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures.
  • Follows the processes and procedures in place for all aspects of work including local processes and organisational policies.
  • To support the development of information systems and engage in service evaluation, outcome measurement, audit and research projects to benefit service users.

Other Requirements

  • The post holder may be required to work in different locations as required by service need.
  • The position requires flexibility in working hours, as some interventions and groups may be delivered in the evening.

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

Essential criteria

  • Registered Professional in Mental Health (e.g. Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Community Psychiatric Nurse, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner)
  • Evidence of meeting the Knowledge Skills and Attitude KSA requirements of BABCP
  • Experience of working in mental health services

Desirable criteria

  • Experience working with those diagnosed with psychosis and / or bipolar disorder
  • Experience of delivering CBT/CBT-informed interventions

Knowledge and abilities

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrates an understanding of psychosis and bipolar diagnoses and how they may present in Secondary Care
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding therapeutic work and the impact it can have on mental health
