Job Overview
Exciting new opportunity for a part time Specialist Physiotherapist (Band 6) to join our Community Stroke and Neurology Rehabilitation Service. We would also consider applications from Band 5 Physiotherapists who are looking for a Band 5/6 development opportunity, depending on experience and competencies. The post will be based in mid and north Cornwall. The service provides specialist assessment and rehabilitation for patients with a wide variety of acquired and progressive neurological conditions, including stroke. This friendly and enthusiastic team provide a combination of community and outpatient appointments. You will be working with experienced health care professionals as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team who will give support, joint working, regular supervision, appraisal, an in‑service training programme and a real commitment to professional development to help you reach your full potential. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with stroke or neurological conditions, rehabilitation experience, excellent communication skills, strong team-working and time-management skills, and a flexible approach. The work base for this role can be Bodmin, St Austell or Newquay, depending on the successful applicant.
Main duties of the job
- Undertake a specialist physiotherapy role for the planning, co‑ordinating, delivering and evaluation for the Stroke and Neurology team within Mid and North Cornwall.
- Provide an efficient physiotherapy service in the community or clinic setting.
- Provide a high standard physiotherapy service, performing specialist neurological assessments for patients, including those with complex presentations and individualised goal setting.
- Formulate a treatment plan which is carried out as an autonomous practitioner with support as required.
- Have specialist knowledge in the specific area of stroke, neurology and eldercare.
- Promote development of self‑management of stroke and neurological condition.
- Provide education and support to formal and informal carers.

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience
- Essential criteria: Current professional registration HCPC, IELTS unless qualification taken in English, Evidence of self‑directed continuing professional development, Act as an autonomous practitioner formulating diagnosis and treatment plans, Have acquired experience and knowledge in eldercare, orthopaedic, stroke, neurological and respiratory conditions; community rehabilitation and specialist rehabilitation clinics, falls prevention, intermediate care and younger patients with chronic disability.
- Desirable criteria: Evidence of further formal study eg. Post graduate qualifications (Post graduate Certificate/Diploma/MSc), Clinical Placement Supervisor, Membership of appropriate clinical interest groups (ACPIN etc), Basic understanding of and ability to apply skills in leadership and management with evidence of taking the lead / a lead role in a project, Experience of working in stroke and/or neurology, eldercare, and a range of other clinical specialties.
