The permanent role is within the Mental Health Support Team to support an expanding workforce. The role focuses on line management and clinical oversight of staff, collaborating closely with other Team Managers and Service Leads to ensure the MHST is delivered in line with established objectives and embraces opportunities for innovation and development in early intervention. The role will focus on leading and managing the west teams and supporting planned expansions in west Cornwall over the coming years.

The Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) offer evidence-based early interventions for children and young people across educational settings and healthcare sectors in England. The successful candidate will hold a core profession such as Registered Nurse, Dip SW or equivalent, or Allied Health Professional, or a qualified Psychological Professional.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and supervising staff.
  • Providing extensive experience of delivery and supervision of LICBT in school settings.
  • Managing or supervising staff with an option to hold a small active caseload of children with mild to moderate emotional and mental health difficulties, delivering 1:1 or group interventions.
  • Applying knowledge of child development, early trauma, identification and assessment of mental health disorders in children, and working in multidisciplinary settings.

Person specification

Essential criteria:

  • Relevant degree level qualification (e.g., RMN or LICBT) or equivalent experience.
  • Sound working knowledge and experience with the values and principles of Children and Young Peoples Improving Access in Psychological Therapies (CYPIAPT).
  • Mentorship qualification or equivalent.
  • Leadership or management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience of working collaboratively in a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Significant experience of working in community with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
  • Knowledge of current legislation including the Children Act 1989, 2004, the Human Rights Act 1998, safeguarding of children and adults, Mental Health law and policy, and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Desirable criteria:

  • Accredited training in evidence based psychological treatment.
  • Eligible for registration with appropriate governing body (e.g., NMC, HCPC).
  • Experience of working in an educational setting.
  • Experience of working with looked after children.
  • Knowledge of audit and evaluation methodology and ability to contribute in the audit process.
