Contract Type: Permanent

If you’re passionate about developing others and want to play a key role in shaping the future of training for our Residential Childcare Support Workers, this newly created role offers a rare and exciting opportunity to join our team at a pivotal moment of growth and innovation. We’re creating a brand-new Trainer / Assessor role within our growing Learning and Development team, and you’ll be right at the heart of building something meaningful from the very start. You’ll work with dedicated Residential Support Workers and Children’s Homes teams, helping them develop safe, nurturing and therapeutic practice that truly improves outcomes for children and young people. Guiding team members through their qualifications and apprenticeships from enrolment to completion, blending workplace coaching, observations, professional discussions and both face-to-face and online teaching. This is a fantastic chance to shape how we support our team members, collaborate closely with managers across our homes, and make sure every team member feels confident, supported and able to thrive. If you’re excited by the idea of influencing practice, driving quality and being part of a growing academy from the ground up, we’d love to hear from you.

A day in the life of a Trainer/Assessor will involve:

  • Manage a caseload of team members from enrolment to completion, delivering high-quality teaching, coaching and assessment across residential childcare qualifications and apprenticeships.
  • Assess team member competence through observations, professional discussions, written evidence and portfolio review, ensuring evidence is authentic, meaningful and linked to safe, nurturing and therapeutic practice.
  • Support team members to apply their knowledge directly to children’s homes, helping them understand trauma, attachment, communication needs and how these influence behaviour, relationships and care practice.
  • Build strong working relationships with managers, mentors and the wider Learning & Development team to create effective evidence opportunities, complete progress reviews and maintain a positive team member learning journey.
  • Deliver inclusive, engaging learning (both face-to-face and online), adapting teaching to different needs while embedding safeguarding, professional boundaries, EDI and trauma-informed practice throughout.

To be a successful Trainer/Assessor, you’ll need:

  • Strong experience in residential childcare or children’s social care, with a solid understanding of safeguarding, trauma-informed practice and professional boundaries.
  • Confident knowledge of residential childcare qualifications, standards and regulatory expectations, with the ability to assess competence through observation, discussion and portfolio evidence.
  • Proven experience developing others, whether learners, apprentices or team members, and supporting them to reflect on care practice, risk, relationships and the needs of children and young people.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and digital skills, including managing a caseload, keeping accurate records and using e-portfolio or learning platforms effectively.
  • Holds (or is willing to work towards) an assessor qualification, with desirable experience such as Level 3 Residential Childcare, teaching qualifications, apprenticeship delivery or assessing residential childcare programmes.

If return for your time, you’ll get:

  • Holidays – You’ll get 28 days annual leave (You’ll get a Pro Rata amount for the length of your contract).
  • Pension scheme – Our pension scheme is based on you paying in 5%, and us adding 3%.
  • Learning & Development Opportunities – We provide comprehensive learning opportunities for team members to develop themselves.
  • Discounts – You’ll have access to brilliant discounts through the Blue Light Card and our own employee benefits platform.
  • Wellbeing Support – Your wellbeing is always our priority. You’ll have access to mental health and wellbeing support.
  • On top of this, our therapies team offers a monthly confidential check in clinic, and group reflective practice sessions.
  • Cycle2Work – The cycle to work scheme enables you to buy a bicycle at a discounted rate.
  • DBS – As this role required you to have an enhanced DBS carried out, we will cover this cost.
  • After 12 months service – You’ll also be eligible for our Medicash scheme which covers a wide range of medical, health and wellbeing expenses (Including immediate access to a GP). You’ll get life assurance paid at x2 your annual salary.
