Are you a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist looking to make a lasting impact? In this role, you'll play a crucial part in supporting pupils with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism, helping to develop the essential communication skills they need to flourish and grow.
A day in the life of a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist will involve:
- Taking a trauma informed approach to clinical work.
- Working with a small caseload of pupils who will have varying Learning, Communication, sensory processing, and social interaction needs through 1-2-1 support, classroom work and group sessions.
- Taking an active role in the admissions process for new pupils, including helping to write pen portraits.
- Working with the wider team to offer the best support to our pupils, including onsite creative art therapists, teachers, and teaching assistants, and taking part in Multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Administration tasks, keeping records up to date.
To be a successful Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you'll need:
- A recognised Degree in Speech and Language Therapy, along with HCPC Registration and membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language.
- At least 3 years of experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- The desire and confidence to run supervisions, training, and support both experienced and less experienced Speech and Language Therapists.
- Good IT skills, with a working understanding of Microsoft packages like Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
- A full driving licence.
If you have experience working within the NHS, the best way for us to describe the level of experience needed for this role would be to consider it a Band 6 position. However, if you are a Band 5 with experience, we can offer a development pathway to help you progress to a Band 6 Specialist role.
In return for your time, you'll get:
