About the Role

Job Location: Havencross School, Denton, Greater Manchester

Salary: £28,641.60 per annum, working 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

Are you looking for your next exciting challenge? Do you want to help create a ‘Centre of Excellence’ for those with SEND? As part of several very exciting developments, we are expanding our provisions and therefore delighted to announce the planned opening of a further independent co‑educational school. Havencross School will provide learning and supportive environment activities for 45 primary and secondary aged children and young people from across Key Stages 2‑4. Phoenix Learning and Care support pupils with Autism, Social, Emotional, Behavioural, Mental Health difficulties and associated complex needs. The Havencross School building will enable clear transition between each Key Stage and meaningful pathways towards improved independence and skills.

Through your appointment you will have the opportunity to help finalise the development of the school and help shape the way the school is created to meet the needs of pupils. Please note, Havencross is a new school due to open in September 2026 so the Caretaker will be the main point of contact for contractors, visitors and our team when visiting. You’ll be a key part of our Property Services team, ensuring classrooms, team member areas, and outdoor spaces are kept in top condition. Your hard work will make sure both our learners and team members can focus on what matters most. A day in the life of a Caretaker will involve:

  • Be Friendly and Helpful: Approach every task with a positive attitude and work well with the team to solve day‑to‑day issues while planning ahead.
  • Be the main point of contact for the build teams: As we refurbish the site to make it ready to deliver an exceptional education experience for our new pupils.
  • Take Care of the Property: Do basic maintenance and cleaning inside and outside, including groundskeeping. You’ll also check equipment, manage cleaning supplies, and host contractors visiting the site.
  • Look After Tools and Equipment: Keep tools and equipment in good condition and report any faults for repair or replacement.
  • Ensure Safety: Follow safety rules to make sure everyone is safe at all times.

To be a successful Caretaker, you’ll need to:

  • Work well with a Property Services team and cooperate with education staff in a busy environment.
  • Be supportive, flexible, and committed to achieving great results with a positive attitude.
  • Carry out physical tasks like lifting, moving, and assembling furniture; carpentry skills are a plus.
  • Follow safety guidelines and Health and Safety rules.
  • Full Driving Licence Required as onsite vehicles available for use if required.
